    Artist's Statement
Born in San Francisco, California in 1961. While a student at Otis Parsons Art School in Los Angeles I put myself through school by reproducing Dali and Ming Dynasty paintings for Charles Hollis Jones Gallery of Beverly Hills. After Otis Parsons returning to San Francisco I began a career in trompe l’oeil painting, murals, faux finish and reproduction of high quality Masterpiece paintings. Many projects followed that allowed me to devote much of my career to developing a “surreal realism” art which is composed of contemporary, figurative and landscape paintings with a solid sense of intense color layered upon each other as if creating a stained glass world.

My style is strong, rich, multi-layered and truthful. Like the works of artists I admire, for example, Gauguin, Van Gogh and Rothko – I paint with verve and gusto. Inspiration for themes in my art comes from nature, dreams and life experiences.

Since moving back to Los Angeles I have concentrated on a series of cityscape and my own modern rock and roll myth paintings which are all very much about my new inspiration from jazz. Painting “jazzy” reminds me to take chances when painting, to incorporate those chances and work with mistakes. Allowing one to free up your expression – as a chance to move. Moving beyond my earlier classic, traditional style to a more courageous approach which is much about the process of moving paint around.

I have exhibited in Northern & Southern California and worked with interior designers; and currently have several local upcoming exhibitions this year
