Artist's Statement
"I combine photographs with paint and charcoal, blurring the boundearies between my inner and outer worlds, my past and present and cultures I have experienced."
Edith Hillinger incorporates representation and abstraction in her works which art historian, Kay Flavell describes as having "strange intensity and dramatic power".
Hillinger was born in Berlin, Germany and spent her formative years in Turkey. She studied painting at Cooper Union in New York and has maintained her art studio in the Bay Area for over thirty years.
