Cesar Garcia’s passion for the arts has been evident “every minute of his life.” A self-taught artist born in Havana, Cuba, he became fascinated with painting’s great masters, and through them learned the essentials, though he claims that his work is the antithesis of classical art. His work is largely surrealist, and his subject matter contains elements of the fantastic and sublime. Imaginary worlds with cities, fortresses and zeppelins dominate his pieces, and all are executed with a sort of delicacy. The colors are multi-layered and nearly transparent, lending to the ethereal quality of Garcia’s work. He says that he “paints with his soul and imagination, and tells a story on every occasion.”

His work can be found in several public collections including the Florida Capitol (State Art Collection), Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, Connecticut, University of Miami (Casa Bacardi), Village of Wellington (Art in public Places) and many other important institutions, foundations and private collections rendering him an important Cuban-American artist of his generation

This exhibition is part of the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs’ Capitol Complex Exhibition Program.
