Artist's Statement
Using color to surprise continues to be my well worn tool. I like to dig into my local environment and pull out a scene or subject that others have overlooked. After I construct my initial design using real world observation, I abandon the subject and work from my imagination.
I don’t intentionally insert symbols into my paintings. As the painting continues, I often see these symbols in abstraction and work to enhance them. When people find meanings or symbols hidden in my design that are special to them it brings me delight. In my paintings you can see that art does not need to be conspicuous to arouse sensation.
